What are your values?
Your values form your belief system and represent what matters to you. They are the core of your internal state that fuel your emotions, feelings, behaviours, and actions that extend to your relationships and how you experience the world.
Different from ‘things you value’, your values cannot be taken from you. When you’re thinking about what your values are, think about what motivates you and what guides your intuition. You might start by writing down a list of everything you think is included in your values, then reviewing for common themes and distilling into three to five core values.
My guiding principle of living and embodying my values has led me to experience a more peaceful and grounded way of Being, which also creates more space to enjoy wild adventures along the way. Adventure, freedom, courage, loyalty, and compassion are my values I live by.
There is less feeling of resistance when I make choices based on my values because it lands well in my body, feels aligned and right for me. This doesn’t always mean things turn out just the way I hoped for! But it does mean I feel content with the decisions I make - for better or worse - because it came from my source of truth.
It’s not always easy to stay on track because life is not simple or linear, but that’s what also makes it exciting and a continuous learning experiment. My values help me navigate the many choices - large and small - that crop up each day. Living my values helps me stay close to myself - close to my intuitive sense, living my life as me and not for external expectations or validation.
There can be a lot to gain by making mistakes and testing boundaries because we are constantly growing and expanding awareness and capacity to feel and hold new experiences. But coming back to my values as a self check-in helps keep me connected with my sense of self. ✨
