Working to your energy levels

My schedule of tasks used to be my directive for what to complete and when, however there were often times things would take way longer than they needed to because I wasn’t feeling energised or focused for what was required in that moment. I’ve since shifted to working to my energy levels, a game changer for feeling in flow and moving through the day with less resistance.

Of course there are deadlines and appointments to meet, but I still check in with myself - mood, energy levels, level of well-being - to navigate the day and between meeting times to get the best from myself based on my needs.

If I’m feeling low energy, I’ll allow for restful, slow, quiet times between meetings or client sessions. If I’m feeling high energy I’ll knock over some tasks in the between times. I’ve learned that pushing myself through low energy causes unnecessary stress and agitation, which isn’t good for anyone. So I arrange my time around set appointments based on how I’m feeling that day, and then in the moment.

Listening to my body to understand what I need to nurture and maintain well-being creates space to take care of myself, to set boundaries as needed, and to be gentle and kind with myself. When I’m in this flow state working to my energy levels, I have more to give others.
